Looking to switch out to an electric unit on my 89 auto L98. I ran a search and did not really see any specifics on part numbers or install.
Whats the install like on one, and any particular unit working better then others?
The search returned suggestions for the Mezier pump but it was listed for the LT-1.
I'm on the verge of replacing my Optispark. When I do this, I plan to also install an electric water pump. The Meziere WP118HD is the one I plan to install. Looks easy enough to do and is highly regarded as a good unit. There are some pictures of the install on the internet.
MorpheusGPR is asking for a L98 ... not a Lt1
the L98 pump is belt driven.
I thought about this mod me too..
but I never seen someone with an electric water pump on a L98 corvette. I started reading few posts about this... but at the end I never seen someone with detailed steps/results.

I am suprised that there has not been more activity on this post. The electric water pump for the l98 does not have a pulley. You have to think a bit on how to run the belt. I have the air pump delete and I just added another pulley to the air pump delete bracket to keep the belt in line over to the air conditioner.
You will also have to modify the air conditioning bracket to fit up to the new pump. Be carefull in keeping the air conditioner pully in the correct location. It is not a direct fit, just requires a couple modifications/adjustments to work.

I plan to have the AC discharged and removed as well.
If you want to use the belt tensioner, I recall a thread some time ago about an AC delete pulley for camaro l98's that would work. Corkvette1 is running an electric pump without the tensioner or AC and he does have an extra pulley on his air pump delete bracket and of course a smaller belt.
The electric pumps have a hour limit on how long they can be used before needing to be rebuilt or be replaced. For that reason Meziere is the only one I would buy, they offer a rebuilding service. I would carry a spare electric pump and shocket just in case one goes on the road .You can change a electric pump out in like 10 mins. Also do a search at www.impalassforum.com,[under group buys]there is a guy there selling a electrical warning wiring kits[you have to wire it yourself] that tells you right away if something goes wrong so you don't wreck your motor. This is made for the lt1 Impala but he has sold them for other cars just need more wire. good luck Tim
I made some search ans it seems that Meziere does a pump with an idler pulley... it's not specific for L98.
the part number is wp301.
No good documentation on the net on this pump yet..

They don't have an hour limit, like most quality equipment they have a life expectancy expressed in hours. For example the Mez SBC high flow pump has a 3000+ hour life expectancy So if you average 25 miles during each hour of corvette operation you can expect to change the pump 75000. (low mph iot account for stop lights idle time etc)
So I would not worry about carrying the spare for the first year or two
I will check into the mezier pump. Anyone have an idea of how this is going to mount to the L98? I can try to pick up an AC delete kit if its going to be needed to have more belt wrap.
I ordered the Flow Kooler waterpump from summit for now so I can get them switched out. It supposedly flows twice the normal rate at idle/low rpms and then switches back to a slower rate at speed/higher rpms.
Looks like a decent unit.
I will still be looking to go electric eventually, just need to get more details on it before I tear it apart.
