In General discussion a question was brought up about mileage comparisons. Thought this might be interesting and wondered if anyone has experimented with Acetone additive possibilities.
My gas mileage runs real similar.......about 23-24 overall, 19-20 in a small county town (with my foot somewhat on the pedal) and 26.8-27.4 per tank on the highway, driving at 72-78 miles an hour with an average of 18gal usage per tank fill. I read a couple of articles about using acetone as an additive and gaining about 15% mpg, more power, more stable idle and faster start-up. They also say it could cause swelling in fuel system components if used in higher mixtures but using 4-6oz per 20 gallons jumps the usage rate up about 3mpg. No damage has been reported until acetone mixtures were double the recommended amounts. Anyone know about it, heard about it or even tried it??????

Topload tried it with his new Rav4 last year and as I recall after 4 weeks he saw no increase in mileage and in fact actually lost a few tenths.
I ran a rather exhaustive test of this myth in my RAV4 for a number of weeks and concluded that while it didn't increase my mileage - it didn't have any detrimental effects on my mileage.....but it did add extra cost to a tank of gas. I followed all the instructions on the recommended website - I really wanted to see this work (especially with the rising cost of gas) but didn't see any evidence that it worked. Personally, I think its a waste of time.....but go for it if you want to give it a run. Four ounces of Acetone in a 20 gallon tank of gas, can't cause to much trouble - eh?
