I've got a front end squeak (not the brakes - that is taken care of).. It is VERY noticeable when going over small bumps. I checked the sway bar, pulled up and down on it as much as I could.. couldn't get it to make any noise (probably because I greased the hell out of it about 2 months ago - grease is still visable).
I greased up my ball joints at the same time (2 months ago), so they shouldn't be making the noise.
What else should I check? It's high pitched, and pretty loud outside the car... i hear the sound waves bouncing off things around me when i drive with the windows down. It doesn't sound like it's from a wheel... sounds more like it's from the center front area of the car.
If i where to guess i would say, Sway bar bushings.......The two in the center that hold them on the frame........Just did this last week. Mine would make a nastey sound when i went over a speed bump.
I'd say the sway bar bushing holding the front bar to the frame. I've had to do mine 3 times now. Last time I used wheel bearing grease! Just another one of those things on the list for replacement. Polyurethane rebuild in the future.
When you say you checked the sway bar, did you disconnect both endlinks and then rotate the sway bar within the frame bushings? It should then immediately be obvious if that is the culprit. Yeah I know you greased it already... :)
No, didn't do that. But like I said, I did push and pull the entire front end of the car so that it moves more than it does when it makes the noise. I also went underneath the car and did an up side down push up rasing the car up listening for noise... and nothin...
