I just did a tune up w with spark plugs and cap and rotor and now my guages flash off and on and are giving me false readings like im sitting in the driveway and my guage says im doing 45mph. I thought at first one of my spark plug wires was touching one of my 3 wires in the cap but there not and I have charged my battery and reset the computer by disconnecting the power cable from the battery.
Check the plug/coil wires closely at night or in a semi-darkened garage with the hood open and hood lights off (pull hood lamp fuse) and check for electrical arcing.
Even new plug wires can be defective, particularly if you went with the cheapie Kragens or something.
Also, did you replace your plug wire holders? If they're cracked or missing, they can cause igniton wire problems, too.
I will try that as soon as I can get this beast to run. Motor just quit. Im not sure if its the ignition box or the chevy module in the distrib cap. I will check both and let you know the outcome.
I have a '90 coupe and my LCD was flashing random numbers when the engine was running , when the key was just in the "on" position everything read normal. To make a long story short, my "new" coil I purchased had a bad ground. Try putting your old coil back on and see what happens. Good Luck
I have replaced the ignition module in the distributor and now the car starts and runs better. My guages still act up. Not sure what to do next. Another thing, the guages that show voltage, miles, oil and temp seem to work fine, just the speedometer seem to be acting up.
