I was under the impression the dual mass was solely designed for the c4 to Reduced the ZF tranny rattle. I dont think c5s and other branded sports cars have dual mass fws these days.

Yeah, so what. Lots of people are running the unsprung hub and 1-pc flywheel. I'm one of em. Seems like a tiny bit more clutch slip on launch than what I had before, but that could be a number of factors.

The only people I've seen post this info were the ones regirgitating it, kind of like a few dozen other things on here...

I use a single mass and it is loud at low rpms under load and at low idles BUT when i push the clutch in.. all goes silent. If you are getting a rattle all the time some thing could be touching the exhaust? check to see if anything in the driveline is loose?

I don't want to judge your mechanic.. but welding the dual mass together is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. WHy have a 45 lb tank flywheel welded to act like a single mass when you can buy a single mass for cheap and save 38 lbs ? A dual mass has stuff in it fuild or ball bearings or rubber etc that can deteriorate over time.
The rattle goes away if you raise the rpms up a bit. So under acceleration the rattle is gone. As far as rattling, we have checked many times and have found nothing. About welding it together, I can be wrong. Again, I am the middle man just relaying information.

Thanks for the input everyone. You all must think I'm a lunatic from all the crazy ideas I've been posting in this thread.

If he were to go to a single mass flywheel how loud would it get? He has a comp cam.
