My 92 is starting to backfire (little pops) at all speeds.Originally it
would only do it at full throttle. I had my opti changed less than a
thousand miles ago, also new ac platinum plugs. Could it be the
optispark again or is it possible I can get away with changing the
wires (not changed since I've owned the car - 4 years). Any ideas?
Definitely start at changing the plug/coil wires. The manual says they're supposed to be replaced every 60,000 miles.
Open your hood at night or in a darkened garage and take a close look at your ignition and coil wires. I'll bet you've got electrical arcing going on like the 4th of July like I did. Not to mention sucky fuel economy. I'm replacing mine this weekend.
You can get the O.E.M. AC/Delco ignition wires online at www.GMPartsDirect.com for $48.64 plus shipping. The GM part number is 12074093.
Be sure and replace the plug wire holders, too, as they tend to get brittle from engine heat and break off in your hands as you remove the old wires.
You can get the O.E.M. style GM plug wire holders from AutoZone. Ask for MotorMite item 40284. They run $3.99 per set. You'll need TWO sets to do both sides of the engine.
Thanks onedef92 for the quick reply. I'll be changing the wires right
away. I didn't want to wait for the AC delco wires online for 49.00,
so I purchased some Bosch locally for 115.00. I hope they will be ok.

Be sure and get the wire holders, too. I've never had any problems with Bosch fuel or air filters (both are in my Vette now) and I'm sure their wires are of O.E.M. equivalent quality, too.
