I have a 1993 coupe and the steering wheel tilt mechanism is loose. The wheel has a lot of play in it. I can move it about 2 inches from 2 - 8 o'clock. I failed inspection - the inspector said the wheel may fall off - which I doubt.... It seems as if the tilt lever is allowing too much play or else the bolts are loose holding the tilt mechanism in place. Any ideas? Thanks.
Jim
Same thing here, I believe it's a problem with the tilt knuckle. And i believe it comes from people pushing and pulling on the steering wheel entering and exiting the car. It also seems to me it's not and easy fix as the air bag and plastic blinker stuff and all the rest of the crap in there needs to be removed just to get at the knuckel, which likely comes as a unit. (steering column) Too bad the knuckel head at the DMV caught it.
Jim,
You may find that the parts needed are no longer available. I had the same problem on my '88 and had to buy a used column for the parts I needed.
Good Luck,
Ed

Chris May at the Chevy dealership helped me allot with the parts, which most (at least the ones you need) are available.
I have a 1990, auto, with airbag. My steering column is also loose. Question: Would the column parts and repair process be the same for my 1990 as what is listed in the link that you provided below? Has anyone replaired a loose column on a 1990 auto with airbag? I have never done this type of repair to my vette. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
