i was out in my car tonight and when i started it to come back home i noticed my brake pedal felt a little strange when i began to back up i realized that my brakes had lost the power or something i mean they work but not right. the noise that i hear every time when i start it from behind the seat wasnt there.
It acted like i had no brake power so i drove it home and now im trying to figure out what went wrong i still have no power even after turning it off and turning it back on.
i checked the fuse marked brake in the fuse box but i don't know what else to do really. any ideas would be helpful
it is an 87 convertible if that changes anything thanks again
well the pedal goes down a little bit before it really does anything in the way of stopping the car and once it starts working then it gets hard to push.
the noise im referring to may still be there but its like maybe a second or two after you start the car its from behind the seat
yeah i just went out to the car and i guess its a vacume leak in the brake booster if that makes any sense im not real sure how it works but i know there is a vac line going in and when you take it off it has vacume pressure to it but when you connect it and hit the brake then there is a air sound like air is coming out or in anyway i think that might be my problem but if there are any other ideas to check then that would be great to
Put your right foot and aply constant presure to the brake pedal, WITHOUT THE ENGINE RUNING.
Now start the car and keep the same constant pressure on the brake.
You should feel that the pedal becomes soft and gets sucked in a little.
This means that you have vaccum assistance from the brake booster.
If you do not have this you might have a defective booster, or vaccum leak.
By the way check your brake fluid level before doing all, and inspect for leaks.
