Default Folks with 3.54 gears! Need feeback please!

Hi Guys,

I am just waiting on a call to place my order for 3.54 gears!

Would like to hear positive or negative feedback with this gear ratio before I pull the trigger! I'm doing the gear change in hopes to make my car quicker on the street and I'm not sure what to expect.

Has anyone else done this set up? Currently I have performance axle with 3.07 gearing. I didn't want to go into the motor so am going the gearin route to hang or beat some of the competition out there.

How much quicker will it be? Please let me know what you think???

Here's my current set up:

1995 LT1 A4 (47k miles)
3.07 gearing
Coolant Bypass
Cut Lid/w K&N Filter
Magnaflow Catback Muffler replacement

i love them and wished i had put them in sooner. i switched over from 2.59's to 3.54's and it was a night and day difference. the only thing i missed was the cool low rpm cruise at 100mph. i don't do a lot of highway driving anymore so i dont miss it that much. the car feels faster.

I have had 3.54 for a couple of years now.

It is way too busy on the interstate. This car (vert) was never very good for interstate driving, but now it's just useless on the interstate. When I take it on a long trip now I try to stick to US routes with 55 mph limits in order to maintain my sanity.

It is lots of fun around town though. I scared myself once when I didn't realize that the TC was off and got sideways while passing another car. That sort of thing never happened with the 2.59...

Going from 3.07->3.54 is about a 15% increase in torque vs the 37% going from the 2.59, so the difference will be much less for you.

Down the road a few years when my 4l60E dies I'm going to look into a 6l80E and going back to the 2.59, which will give the 1st gear ratio that I currently have with the top gear ratio that I used to have.

If you do a search you will find plenty of previous answers to this question.

I put in a 3.75 rear gear from a 2.59 and I love it.

I definetely recommend 3.54 gears. I went from 3.07's to 3.73's on my vette, and i thought that was a bit too much. (Plus, i kept blowing the rear end). I would definetely recommend putting a dana 44 in it with 3.54's. They are great all around gear, and you'll definetely see and feel a difference.

What type of RPM's will you see on the freeway with a 3.54 gear in a A4? Mainly, 65-75mph.

I Replaced The 3.07 On My 85 With 3.54 On D44. Like Them Much Better . I Dont Remember The Exact Rpm But It Seems About 2100 At 70. Was 1700 With The 3.07. Much Nicer Around Town.

I switched from 2.59s to 3.54s and love them. Parts and labor cost me $750. I drive on the highway all the time with no issues. If I remember correctly it's turning around 2200 rpms at 70 mph.

Default Gears

If you are curious about what effect tire heights, gears everything will have go here... http://www.geocities.com/z_design_st...nsmission.html

Auto Tranmission ratio's are found here..

3.54 gears should be just about ideal! 3.73's can be a bit short.
I like 3.42's as well.
