Default A little question about hp...

I'm looking for a C4 in my country (Spain) and i have located 3 that looks great.

The owners says that they are 286hp, but i have read here the FAQ and you don't mention that amount of horsepower in any motor...

Here is my 3 candidates:

Black 1992 ¿? vette

This atonishing Vert

and this 92 LT1 of unknow hp

Could you help me??

The 92's are LT1 or LT5 engines. The LT5 only came in the ZR1, it looks like a "HEMI" sorta, spark plug wires go down into valve covers(Cam Covers). The LT1 looks like any other Small Block Chevy, the spark plugs are under the valve covers in the side of the cylinder head.
LT1= 300HP
LT5= 400HP (1990 LT5= 370?HP)
That is unless there are different export numbers?

Ok, tipical european vette problem!
follow me: the firsr is not a 1992 its for sure a 1989.
the second vert can be a 95 and it has body work done.
the third it's for sure a Lt1 but it has the rims in the wrong order.
I know so many Italian member of my club that purchased vettes as a91 or a 93 and at the end these were 1986 or 1989..

1st one appears to be an 89, the second is probably a 92 or 93 with extensive body modifications (why?) and the third seems to be exactly what he says it is. Good luck with your search!
<---- Hope that has a positive meaning over there

yes... the first has the old interior and is 6gear manual, so it's an 89 for sure

And about the third, what's the right order?

Did you buy your Vette in Italy? I have been searching in Germany and they have very interesting prices

P.S. Milano... i've been there two years ago... i have great memories of your city

I bought it in Germany.
There are many vettes in Germany so the prices are low.
There are also many vettes that are not in good condition. (mine was one of these... )
Germany is cold so the roads are full of salt in the winter.
Yuo should see the frame for rust. Buy a car in Germany is a lottery if you have not the way to see it in person and check it with someone who KNOW vettes.

so the situation can be summed up in:
- the 286hp motor doesn't exist
- after 1991 there are 3 kinds of motors: 250hp L98, 300hp LT1 and ZR1 with a lot of hp.

Anything else?

after 91 you only have LT1 and LT5 aka ZR1 engine

the L98 was used up until 1990 the 91 vettes had LT1 engine new interior and a bit different body style

Actually the L-98 was used from 1985 to 1991 in several configurations, the LT-1's came out in 1992 (93 in the Camaro's) otherwise you're correct. <-----having fun with that!

Looks like they have the roadster listed as a 6 speed manual, when the pictures show an automatic. :o

All of the C4s came with 5.7L (350 CID) engines. The 1984, C4s had the 205 HP, Crossfire, L83. The L98 was in cars from 1985 through 1991, in varying horsepower levels over the years. In 1992 through 1996 the LT1 was standard, with the LT4 offered as an option in 1996, only. The exception was the 1990 - 1994, ZR1 cars, that came with the LT5, dual overhead cam engine. The 1990 - 1992 ZR1s had 375 HP and the 1993 & 4 had 405 HP.

1987: L98, TPI, 240 HP.
1988: L98, TPI, 240 HP.
1989: L98, TPI, 245 HP.
1990: L98, TPI, 245 HP. LT5, DOHC, 375 HP.
1991: L98, TPI, 250 HP. LT5, DOHC, 375 HP.
1992: LT1, TPI, 300 HP. LT5, DOHC, 375 HP.
