Hogan makes some quality stuff. I am running two different engines with sheet metal intakes and both were worth power on the dyno over conventional cast intakes making them worth it.
There are certainly cheaper ways to build horsepower than a sheet metal intake but when you are at the top of the power and want more it can give you the added bump.
To expound upon what nitrous sam said ( hey sam by the way); you really need to have a GREAT flowing set of heads to take advantage of the extra cost the SM intake is going to cost you.
In other words, its probably a waste of money and will not get you much if you slap them on a set of heads that are marginal.
IMHO the money would be better suited to find a great set of heads, like M2s or AFRs, then have them ported by a VERY retutable head porter - a good one will cost you that much.
Look for a post by Denny McLain (sp?) his forum name is something like d4mclain (can't recall exactly what it is). I'm pretty sure he's now running a sheet metal intake on his LT4.
Ok, to further the question...at what CFM does it make sense to upgrade to a SM intake? Say you have the M2 Brodix heads and they flow around 305cfm at around .600. I believe the miniram is 280 cfm out of the box. How much power are you leaving on the table in that scenario? What do these SM intakes flow?

The question was not what are the advantages or what you think the requirements are to get the optimum out of using a sheet metal intake. I was just asking who is using a Hogan intake with their LT4. Mark thanks for answering my question and gents for the other info.
I have a custom Jeb intake on my destroked 400ci in my 91 vette..Its sheet metal top and a Holley Pro Dominator tunnel ram bottom..Seems to work well even with my smallish 236/236 .581 lift on a 110LSA cam...I plan on changing to a larger 244/250 .620lift cam soon to really make use of the intake...
Has anyone had one of the Edelbrock Air Gap Manifolds ported by a pro? It would be about a third the cost of a SM and the runners are a bit longer than stock intakes. Plus it would have the benifit of less heatsoak. I know it's not as good as a sheetmetal I was just wondering what your thoughts were as an alternative to stock and SM.
