I have a completely stock 96 LS1 vette. I want to put Nitrous through it but am a little leary. There is a stock kit from NOS #05174. It sprays 135 horse. Is that ok for a stock LT1? I have some buddies that say you should get a new fuel pump and injectors. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any other ideas for mod-ing my vette? Any help would be appreciated.
It would be for occasional drag racing. I have just heard war stories about Nitrous. The guy, who the first time he pushes the button the engine explodes! I don't want to be that guy. I want to make sure I do it right. I sent an email to Nos and they said that kit would be fine. I would not need to do anything else. Just install that kit and follow the directions to a tee. Everyone has an opinoin about it...I just don't know what to do. Any ideas?
NOS Kit 5174 is the kit I am running. It is adjustable to 150HP from 100HP. I am running a .067 jet and gained 97 HP at the wheels. A stock LT1 should be given no more than a 150 shot. There are however, people on this forum shooting 200 shots. Your buddies are right about the fuel pump. The 5174 kit comes with an auxillary fuel pump (40gph)for when the nitrous is armed. When not armed you are simply running off the stock pump.
I put a 150 shot NOS system on my L98 and have had no problems it was easy to install and works good. You need to follow the instructions if you do you should be ok.

Re: LT1 and NOS? (buzz 85)
Buzz just a question?
How do you use your NO2?? On the street just fooling around with some mustang kids or do you take it to the track and bracket race 2 to 3 times a week and put 200+ runs on your car a year??????????
Mackeyred96 Im too old to be fooling around with mustang kids on the street. I have used it at the track and on the street but its not needed much on the street. I have raced boats in the past circles and drags my vet is what i drive to work. The NOS is nice when you need a boost it does not make it fast its just easy hp if you need it.
