Default rear suspension bolt length...

So I've got my car up on the lift, changing fluids, looking things over, and I notice that the rear suspension bolts are about an inch and a half longer than they need to be. That is, there's an inch and a half of bolt not being used.

Now I know that the 'lowering bolts' from the suppliers are longer to allow one to lower one's rear end.

Since I have an inch and half extra already, what's to stop me from just running the nut out toward the end of the bolt and drilling another pin hole and running a hitch pin through the castle nut and the bolt and calling it good?

It's a 91 vert.

I imagine there's some thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

You could do that, having the nut past the stock hole would make me nervous that the bolt would break though. I would not go through the hassle of drilling another hole, I'd just use a jam nut or lock nut.

Nothing if you trust the strength of the bolt-end with the hole in it.

Those two bolts are holding up the rear of the car. If one of the bolts break while you're driving the spring will hit the road. (The amount of rear spring curve is greater than I thought it would be)
