Can TunerPro or other data loging SW read SES codes?
Have a new BIN from Alvin that I am trying to use after upgrading my 86 with new heads and camshaft. This new BIN causes a SES light, and I need to see what's up.
I know I can jump the AB and read the SES flashses, but shucks why not use TunerPro if it can do the same thing and maybe provide some additional meta information on the codes - if I'm hooked up anyway for data logging.
Did a search of the TunerPro help and found nothing for code reading. Appreciate your suggestions. Current ECM set up includes TunerPro and AutoProm.
I don't think TunerPro has the ability, but TunerPro RT definitely does.
In a nutshell:
In TunerPro RT, you will need to go to "Tools", "ALDL/Datalogging", "Setup" (or you can just press F4). You'll get a set up screen. You need to select the correct definition file for your application. Hook up your laptop to the AutoProm, and hook up the AutoProm to the ALDL. Turn the key to the "on" position and hit the "connect to ECM" button. You should see a blue bar on the bottom of the screen say "ALDL Connected". Then you can select what you want to see from the D (dash), F (flags), V (variables), or M (monitors) buttons on the top.
Be sure the Autoprom is set up correctly as well.
You can set up a recording session for a data log from that screen, too.
Thanks for this follow up note. Have already data logged. Even after reading your note do not understand where in TunerPro RT I get to the SES codes. When I look under the flags/switches or constants I do not see any variables that look like SES codes (i.e. code 32 for MAF), Any chance you can be more specific - under Tools/ALDL which constant of flag is it. Using either $32 or $6E.

In TunerPro RT, you should see 4 icons with letters on them across the top of the screen. Each one has a different letter - D, F, V, M. If you hit the "F" icon, you will see a list of error codes in the middle of the screen that pops up. Most will have "ok" listed to the left. I forget what it will say when there is a trouble code stored, but it will be in bold, red letters, so you can't miss it. Remember to make the necessary hardware connections and to "connect to the ECM" on the ALDL set up screen.
If WinALDL v1.09f (shareware) will scan your ECM/PCM it will display the code status in real time if you click on the <Error Codes> tab. The datalogger will also capture the codes if you click on Error codes if you wish.
