The answer to your question on reversing polarity is yes. Ground becomes hot and hot becomes ground. This won't work with AC current, but for your car (DC) it is the answer. Sounds too simple huh.

Just reverse the two wires feeding each fan and voila! They will now spin in the opposite direction.

My 94 would always run up to 240 degrees in hot stop and go even with manual fan switchs turned on AC off. I have 160degree themo. I pulled the radiator found it to be so full of everthing that you could hardly see light thru a lot of it. I spent about an hour washing it with simple green, spraying it with high pressure water and then blowing it out with air pressure. The results are super, I very seldom go over 180 degrees, if I'm in hot stop and go and the temp starts to creep over 200 degrees I shut off the AC for a bit, turn on the fans manually and it pulls temp back down to under 190 degrees.. I'm a believer that a cool running engine is a happy long running engine mine has 107,000 miles.

My friend had a gold 87 4+3 that he moved from Illinois to Arizona with in 1993. I wonder if you have his former car? FrankLT4CE

Nope. :) For two reasons, first of all, my car moved from Florida and I bought it from the second owner.

Second of all, my car shifts for me. :)

Here's the update, I still haven't gotten a puller fan, because the pushers seem to be working fine at the moment. I swapped the polarity and now they hold the temperature right at 192 unless I'm sitting at a stoplight, in which case the temp goes up to about 205, which is the longest I've sat still.

The ultimate test will be next Saturday, when there is going to be a huge Corvette cruise moving relatively slowly. I always have the auxiallary radiator to fall back on, so I think I should do fine. A puller is in the works though.

Thanks for helping me get this sorted out everyone.
