Default Average fuel read out is going NUTS!

The digial read outs for my "Average" fuel economy and the miles read out for how many miles I have left to drive are going NUTS! They are both jumping all over the place.

The averave MPG will go from 18 or 19 then to 51 then back to 21 then god knows what. This is while driving 55 down the road at a constant speed. I thought that it was on INSTANT avearge BUT I have checked 20 times and it isnt.

The miles left to drive changes constantily. It varies by 20 - 50 miles while driving.

Any ideas????

The display does take a few miles to settle down. Are you continuing to hit the reset? Letting the computer accumulate 5 or 10 miles may be all that is required before the readings are constant.

NOPE! have not even touched the reset button. This is happening after driving over 20 - 40 miles. It never settles down the whole time driving.

Sometimes that problem is caused by an ECM getting ready to crap out. Mine did that, but I also had some drivability issues such as missing and poor performance. Replaced the ECM all went back to normal.

Hope this helps

HMMMMM you guys could be onto something. I have felt that the car was more slugish than it should be. Maybe this is the problem! I will have to check into a ECM prob wouldnt hurt to replace it anyways.

Thanks
Phil
