The turn siganls on my 92 coupe stopped working completely. Before they stopped they seemed to flash a little slower. The fuse and bulbs are fine. After researching the forum archive I think the "flasher" may be the problem. If so, where would I find the "flasher" and what does it look like?
I don't know about your 92 but my 84 has the flasher just above the infomation display behind the plastic bezel where the radio and air ducts are. You have to remove it to gain access to it. Also the seat belt buzzer, and key buzzer is there.
On the 92 models the turn signal flasher is mounted to the left of the steering column. You will need to remove the left hand lower trim panel, which is under the steering column. The flasher is a small round metal or plastic can that has an L shaped plug attached to it and is mounted in a circular spring clip. It will take more time to work your way to the flasher, than it does to change it.
Sounds like the flasher to me. When you turn on the turn signal the current that goes through the bulbs also goes through the flasher module. The current through the module heats up an element and causes it to open like a curcuit breaker and shuts off the bulbs. When it cools, the element closes and the bulbs come back on. This is why 1) the bulbs won't flash if one bulb is burned out, not enough current to heat the element 2) they flash faster when you connect a trailer (more current through the element, the quicker it heats).
If the flashing slowed before it quit then the element was probably going out.
