I also have a 1990 and was wondering......you did these mods and I was wondering...
TB Bypass....did this really help...? and I prob should not do it...anyway Iam from New England...
Relocated MAT....again do you think it helped at all?
No AIR System.....huh?
Gutted Main Cat....worth doing....?...I prob can't...from Massachusetts...we have strict emissions..but my pre-cats are coming off....did you notice any change in exhaust sound....like from boomy bassy exhaust when you had pre-cats to more of a high-pitch popping noise without...(thats what Iam after) :yesnod:
No Frisbee .... was not aware that 1990's had these....only 1989's....and below....any input...
thanks bud....just noticed after your mods you pull a 14.3.....hmmm....I gotta get g-tech this xmas...mine feels strong.....ttyl
Taking off the precats will definately change the exhaust sound, louder and more pop, like you said, I also gutted my main cat and I did get a noticeable power gain. I did have a frisbee, took it off. When I relocated the MAT it seemed to improve the throttle response.I gutted my air pump and removed all of the pipes and valves and crap that went along with it. I did all of these mods at the same time so I don't know which one contributed the most. The engine reaches higher rpms much quicker, is louder and has a noticeable power increase. I don't have any G-tech times before the mods but it was definately worth it. Besides the exhaust mods, it dosn't hurt to try these mods weather you get a gain or not.
was wondering what you have to do to pass emissions there in bowling green.....?......iam in mass and they are pretty strict here....but i still wanna go the no-pre-cats route and a hi-flow main cat......
I've removed the main cat on my car and love it. I did it the week after my MA emissions test (passed with flying colors FWIW), so I'm good for two years. I'm only going to put it on to pass the test. Right now i have a 3" straight pipe where the cat used to be.
cool...deal scorp...iam taking my pre-cats.....off and pray iam gonna pass....
If she's well tuned you should be fine. If you're a little worried I would bring the car into the place definitely at operating temperature. I'd have the tank full of Sunoco Ultra 94, and a bottle of Octane booster should help.
Are you just gutting the precats, or replacing it with a y-pipe without them? I'd go with the latter, so JUST IN CASE you can bolt the normal one back on. :) I'm keeping all my emissions stuff ready to bolt on.
Nope, can't hurt. I don't have one since my car is an 87 (frisbee started in 88). Fastguy removed his from his 88 a few weeks ago and he hasn't reported anything "bad" yet. :)
