Default small battery in back compartment?

I was trying to sort out some of the wiring in my 84 project car and removed the carpet and found wires going to the compartment behind the passenger seat when I lifted it up I found a small battery that looks like a motorcycle battery with some heavy GA. wire going to it. What is this for and if I remove it will the car start and run ok. It's going to be a street strip car. Pipe THANKS FOR THE HELP

Stereo shop is going to build a custom box to put a lawnmower battery in my back compartment to boost my electrical system to keep it from draining my one battery when I run all the accessories. Maybe thats what that one is for. Put a new one in and see if it changes anything.

It is not stock. Depending on how (or if) the original wiring has been hacked, you should just be able to remove and forget it.

RACE ON!!!

I concur with CFI-EFI! That battery was not installed by GM, the previous owner put it there.

I think this car had the CB Radio option in it. When I removed the carpet and started tracing wires I found a black cable with that end on it that connects to a CB. Dam wiring Pipe

I would try my best to find the end of the RED wire, so I could remove it or at least isolate it from any possible short to ground.

That heavy gage wire went from that cycle battery up through the firewall and was hooked to nothing. The black wire coming from that battery was screwed to a piece of metal as a ground. Pipe

I've seem alarm installers use a seperate siren on a seperate small battery circuit like that before so that if someone tries to disconnect your battery to disable the alarm, it keeps going.

I have wiring diagrams I could forward to you for the 84 as I have one too. Let me know if you are getting rid of the cartoon dash and going gages, mine have sun fade issues.
