Have No Codes . Good Fuel Pressure, Checked Maf And Replaced Relay, replaced Fuel Pump And Filter, Good Spark And Power To Injectors. Can Start Car With Starting Fluid And Car Runs Great. May Or May Noy Restart.
Unplug an injector and connect a noid light (available at parts store) or use a low power 12v lamp like a 194 side marker lamp across the socket and crank the engine. The light should pulse showing that the ECM is pulsing the injectors. That you can make the engine run with starting fluid shows that the injectors are not spraying fuel !!!!!!
I Had The Car In A Shop Where They Went Through The Car. They Had A Noid Light On The Injectors And Saud They Received A Good Responceas They Felt That They Were Opening And Closing. As To Whether They Are Totallt Clogged They Did Not Remove Any Injectors And Do A Visual Check. Am I Correct In Assuming That All Injectors Spray On Start Up? Or Just One Particular Injector? Could The Ecm Have Something To Do With My Problem?
Thanks For The Reply
If the injector connectors are receiving the refrence pulses and the engine will start with starting fluid, then the injectors are at question. I will suggest to get a ohm meter and check the injector coils resistance. Key off, unplug the injectors and touch the two terminals with the ohm meter. The resistance should read over 10 ohms each and all be very close to one another. If you have an injector to ohm way off, it could cause the whole bank to not fire. Check the ohms, it's an easy and quick way to rule things out.
The injectors could also be clogged from debris in the fuel. The only way to check that is to remove the injectors and have them serviced...only thing is, if you have the stock Multec injectors (89-91) they can not service and need to be replaced.
Took Your Advice And Ohmed The Injectors. They All Came Up At16.4-16.6 Ohms. Have Not Removed Any To Do A Visual Yet.
Wouldn't The Car Run Rough Once Started If I Had A Bad Injector? Car Runs Great Once Started. car has original injectors. 105,000 mi
Thanks Again For Your Input
You have fuel pressure, you have injectors receiving pulses, what you do have is an engine that runs only with starter spray, that tells me that you do not have any fuel flow, even with good injectors and good fuel pressure. No fuel is being sprayed out of your injectors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You need to find out why. If you can start it with spray and it keeps running, then I suspect that either the fuel pump does not run for 2 seconds when you first attempt to start, OR......you have leaky injectors and after 2 seconds fuel pressure is lost. With the spray, the engine starts, oil pressure exceeds 4 psi and the oil pressure switch turns on the fuel pump. Next time it won't start, jump 12v to the fuel pump fuse or jump 12v to terminal G on the ALDL connector (bottom left pin looking into the connector) which keeps the fuel pump on. If it will start with the fuel pump on continuously through cranking, then you need to find out if the fuel pump comes on for 2 seconds with ign key turned to run and if the fuel pressure holds up after you turn the ign off! If fuel pressure drops rapidly, you have leaky injector/s or a defective fuel line check valve.
Had The Car In The Shop Today. They Said It Is Bringing Up A Security Code. The Last Shop That It Was At Said That They Disabled It.
I Have Had People Turn On The Key While I Listened At The Fuel Tank For The Pump And I Can Hear It Come On For The 2 Seconds. This Am I Sprayed It To Start It, Drove It 15 Milrd To The Shop, Parked It For 1/2 Hr And It Restarted Just Fine.
Hmmmm?
Took The Car To The Shop Today. Sprayed To Start It. Ran Fine
Drove The 15 Mi And Let It Sit For 1/2 Hr And The Car Restarted.
They Said It Brought Up A Security Code " Securety Enabled"
The Last Shop That I Had It At Said That They Had Seen The Code But Disabled The Security While Testing It.
