I got my 92 back from the garage after just having wires put on (I know
I should be doing that myself) and now I have a loud squeel when engine revs up just before shift. I'm wondering what the most likely cause is - belt too tight, too loose, pully noise, belt not tracking? Is there abything else these jokers could've screwed up?
Either the belt is too loose or the shop lubed for for you. Check to see if they spilled some oil or grease on the belt or one of the pulleys. If not check your tensioner.
I guess. Not normally. A serpentine belt really can't get too tight. The tension is provided by the belt tensioner, which only weakens with age. A worn out bearing still could be making the noise. You will have to determine what is squealing.
Yes, I guess I wasn't thinking, the tensioner will keep it right. I guess I
was asking for some quick tips out of laziness and not isolating the noise first. The only problem is I have to get someone else to rev it up
as it is only at higher rpm. Thanks a bunch.
Start the car and then turn the steering wheel lock to lock and see what it sounds like... If it makes unnatural noises then you will know... Power steering pump. If not move onto the next possivble problem...
