Default Question about LT4 balancer hub

I bought the short keyed balancer hub from jegs. It is the same length as the one that came off my car. I have read that if you are using the cloyes timing chain you have to take out the reluctor ring. Since I have the 96 short hub, with no ring, wouldn't it be to short? Do I need the longer hub for the ODB1 car? Or, is it such a small difference that it wouldn't matter?

I just sent you a PM on this, but I decided to post it here so others may benefit from my experience a well.

I can't respond directly to your question because I didn't go the same route as you are.

On the 388 LT1 I just installed in my 96 I went with an ATI Super Damper, part # 917274. I came with a spacer and thick washer.

I installed a new reluctor ring and the damper spacer in front of the Cloyes Timing chain I bought from Summit.

After everything was installed, from looking at the two engines sitting on engine stands side by side, it looked like the ATI damper extended farther forward than the stock setup.

So I measured from the exact same places on each block to the fore-most rib on the damper (388) and the for-most rib on the stock pulley.
the measurements were identical. I didn't want my belt to run at an angle, so I was relieved.

So even though the ATI "looked" like it extended farther forward, effectively it didn't.

Hope this helps.
