Default Code 34

Would a dirty throttle body or vaccuum leak cause a code 34? The book says it's a MAF problem, but everything checks out. Also, how hard is it to pull TB and clean?

It's pretty easy. On an LT1 or LT4, be sure and use a plastic hose clamp (auto parts store) to squeeze the upper radiator hose (engine cold, of course) to minimize coolant leakage when you disconnect the TB hose.

Use a shop towel, too, to protect the Opti from any coolant that might spill. I used Valvoline Synthetic TB Cleaner in the aerosol can, a large plastic bowl, some shop towels and an old toothbrush to clean mine.

You can purchase the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor gasket from most auto parts stores (typically in a kit, sometimes individually) or you can make your own like I did from a sheet of gasket paper.

Be sure and coat the gasket with a little bit of motor oil before bolting it back to the TB housing to prevent a vacuum leak.

Check the C4 TechTips Section on this Forum for complete instructions, including how to clean and reset your IAC too.
