If you remove the engine from the top you will not have to pull the transmission to change the clutc. The clutch will come out with the engine. It will be fairly simple to replace the throw out bearing at this point too.
when i removed the engine out of my 89, i was surprised as to how tight of a fit it was. I would agree with engine out from top and tranny out from the bottom, that is if you feel like it is necessary to remove the tranny for whatever reason. wait, how the hell do you remove an engine out of a c4 with the hood on? your joking right?
