Black Smoke/Backfire
So I finally got my overheat problem fixed and now I have a new one! My timing and everthing along those lines are fine. While driving to work, the vette died. After pushing it into a pklot and waiting an hour, it started back up. I got a backfire and some black smoke!
Please help, I can't take much more!!!

Your profile says 86 Vette....your name indicates a carbed 84. Which car are we talking about? It's much easier to diagnose if we know what car we're dealing with.
I'm going to assume the 86 in your profile. Start with the basics. What you're describing sounds like a timing or ignition issue. You say it started back up, but backfired....did it backfire out the intake, or the exhaust? Did it continue to run after it backfired? Were you able to drive it home, and how did it run if you did?
We really need more info, but to start with....
1. Test your fuel pressure and post the results.
2. Buy or borrow and ignition module tester and test your ignition module. The fine folks at Autozone will test it for you as well.
3. You say your timing is fine. What base timing are you running? Any chance the timing chain jumped? Run a compression test and re-check base timing.
Start with those, post the results, and we'll go from there.
