89 AUTOMATIC 700r4, I want to put a shift improver kit from B&M in the trans. I've heard the valve body is heavy, can anyone tell me how heavy also any pointers/advise on this would be G-R-E-A-T-L-Y appreciated. Just want to be sure I'm not biteingoff more than I can chew.
I had never installed one before but decided to give it a shot last summer. It was really not that bad. The valve body is very heavy. Twenty pounds maybe, I did not weight it. The trouble is reinstalling it without moving the gasket and such. I used a small jack to hold it and put it into place. This worked well.
I am very pleased with the shift kit! Just make sure to get a new seperator plate if the kit doesn't come with one.

Thanks, I will take your advise on the seperator but would like to know why. IS IT JUST TO PUT A NEW ONE IN WHILE ITS OPEN?

Yes, the stock one is probably very worn, mine was. At the check ball holes the plate was getting ovaled badly. They are cheap but the kit may come with one depending.
The B&M kit is quite basic and has excellent instruction. The illustrations are very clear as well. Follow them to the letter, and it will be a smooth project. Do Not use wheel bearing grease to hold the check *****. Use vaseline instead. Trust me on this.
