Default Head gaskets--what's your preference?

Well, it looks like I will be changing the head gaskets and wanted to know what you guys are running and how they're holding up for you. All comments appreciated....
Thanks,
Chris

For a race car, cometics are hard to beat. I've heard of them starting to weep coolant on daily drivers, but I haven't personally experienced that problem so I will continue to use them.

Lots of guys have good luck with regular old Fel-Pros.

I ran FelPro head gaskets for a long time, without an issue. When I rebuilt the enhine and had a fresh properly machined surface (very important with any MLS type gasket), I moved to the MLS type head gaskets and have had no issue with them weeping or any other issue. 9.3:1 scr with max boost in the 25+ psi range. But I can not definitively say that I would have had an issue with the FelPros either.

Did you have a he4ad gaslket failure? What scr and what boost? If failure, what brand/type of gasket?

I run FelPro gasket, head studs, w/9.2:1 cr, 16 psi boost at 5500 rpm (est. 18 psi at 6500 rpm...havent upped the rev limiter yet), other than loosing coolant, cant tell I have a problem (drives and smells ok).

If they've got an got a part # for your application I'd use the Fel-Pro MLS gaskets over the Cometics. The gasket coating on the FelPro's is literally "sticky". Been a little less money also.

I like the felpro gaskets. They aren't stock replacements, but they they aren't MLS either, but they don't leak like the cometics that I've had and still hold the power.

Default Head Gaskets

I was going to install the Felpro, but changed to the Cometic. In either case I haven't installed them yet and will go with the Cometics. I am concerned that the water jacket ports on both are too small and may be restrictive. Maybe that's where the leak starts?? Do you know what I mean? O feel like cutting the hole larger. Cometic said all SBC's are like that. This is my first and I don't want to do the job twice.

Don't try to enlarge the ports on the cometic head gaskets. If you mess up the part where they seal then you're going to have a ton of problems. Not to mention that its very difficult to hold a MLS head gasket still while drilling it, I've tried, not fun.

I know guys running really high powered LT1s on copper gaskets. One is on an ol-ring'd setup.
