I am thinking about getting a Hypertech Streetrunner chip. Here are things I have heard, I want to know if they are true. '86 Auto transmission with a KN air filter.

1. Only difference is at WOT
2. I have a shift kit that makes it shift faster and harder. Will the chip will reduce the "throw" when the car shifts? ...I like that kick.
3. If I get the Thermomaster with the new thermostat, the radiator fan will be spinning all the time.
4. Anything to add?

Thanks a bunch,
Jack

I have a 92 auto LT1 and I got the thermomaster Hypertech chip....I did not notice much improvement in performance at least not enough to justify the cost of the chip. I would recommend you get a custom chip made to work with your car and any mods you have done.If you do get the hypertech I don't believe it will affect your shift kit, but don't quote me on that. My fans did come on sooner, I never had any bad issues with it just not worth the money in my opinion.

Hi Jack,
A book by Richard Newton 101 projects for for your corvette 1984-1986
He said you can't get enough horsepower out of a standard mail order chip to justify the cost. He also took six chips and put them on a dyno and found the stock GM chip provided the best power.
I'm considering a shift kit how do you like it?

I have the exact same thing in my 92 and my fans didn't even come on sooner. Waste of money especially on my stock set up.
