Normally Aspirated 500hp LT-1 Possible?
Is it possible to build a 500hp DD STREET car, or close to that number, with a stroked and cam, head set-up LT-1? With automatic transmission?

cubic horsepower costs cubic dollars.
that would be one hard core motor, and would be real touchy. I would not want it as a DD... and if you have ANYTHING that resembles smog inspections, you would so fail.
I would use a blower. more docile motor around town, all the power you want when you need it. and it would be a ton easier to pass smog with.

If you are talking rear-wheel hp, it ain't going to happen for a street car.

but relatively mild. It puts 398 to the wheels and I spray a 150 wet shot.

I think you should go into hiding for a while.poor old CFI/EFI is in a really bad way after your earlier post. They say he will recover but he really shouldn't be reading any more stupid posts until he's back on his feet. You wouldn't be from N.C. would you?

The shop that I work at has a regular customer with a 94 Firebird. The car is almost a daily driver, and sees a ton of track time. It's got an LT1 based 396 with some really killer bottom end stuff. The top end is a little lack luster, it's just the stock LT1 heads hogged out, and big *** solid roller cam, but it made 450 RWHP. With a 175 HP shot it's making mid 600's, with air conditioning, and the 6 speed.
I think if you added some killer AFR heads to the engine, it would come pretty close to 500 RWHP, N/A.
Trying to get the dyno to show 500 RWHP through an auto is going to be tough, if not impossible using a streetable LT1 based engine. In my opinion, build a 400 HP LT1 and add a power adder like nitrous. 400 HP all the time, and 600 when you really need it.
Good luck!

My setup put down 440rwhp ~500hp at the flywheel
383, LPE LT4 heads, LPE LT4 intake, 847 cam, EM long tubes and 3" exhaust.

My 383 LT4 put down 466RWHP on a Mustang dyno...but it took a lot of oney to get it there. However, with the hew AFR heads out now, I think it can be done quite bit cheaper than what I paid a few years ago.
Here's a dyno sheet;
You'll need a very good bottom end, some great heads, and a cam that'll spin pretty high.
Oh, and this car IS my daily driver...and it does a great job of it, not touchy or hard to drive at all.

Seen a few come close, never seen one break 500.
And definitely not even close with an auto.
Bluewasps is about as friendly as ya get at that kinda power level in a LTx motor.

A 400rwhp engine is mild enough for daily use, add nitrous and you're where you want to be. You're not naturally aspirated of course but for driveability you can't beat it. If it's chp you're after then yeah no problem at all. Your Dana 36 will grenade and your trans isn't going to live a long life with the extra power though.
Alot depends on what you consider acceptable, my car is loud, it has a rough idle and the gas mileage is awful. It shifts hard, the stall converter is a bit much and the list goes on. I love my car but driving it everyday everywhere I went would get old in a hurry.

I've been lurking around the f-body forums for a while. Those guys mod the hell out of the LT1's. I don't think I've seen any go 500+ rwhp NA. Many have gotten 400-450rwhp NA pretty easy. Some have come close to 500 rwhp, but they were no where near what I would consider suitable for a DD street car. I think they had stroker 396's, with sheet metal intakes, huge roller cams, converted race ported heads, custom headers, etc.. Around 480rwhp is the closest I seem to remember.
