My Uncle started building a 57 Bel Air Vert at a shop out of state. LS powered. C4 suspension. They were really dragging thier feet. We now have it home and need to address a few things. The front ride height is way low. Can I make some aluminum blocks to raise the front spring to achieve proper ride height? Has anyone used Air Ride on a C4 chassis ?
If its a stock C4 front end; Yes, you can raise the ride height by placing some spacers on top of the spring mounts. (You're actually lowering the spring to raise the car since the spring is mounted under the crossmember. I beleive that the factory shims I removed when lowering my car were steel.
The factory used steel shims above the front spring to fine-tune ride height.
I've never seen an air-ride setup on a C4, but there are several coil-over conversions available (DRM, Exotic Muscle). With a coil-over, you can easily adjust ride height.

The air ride would work if the bags were thin enough to package in there. You're pretty much stuck with these expensive suckers:

I assume you're tossing the leaf spring in the garbage, no sense in trying to package that in.
Why not try coil overs? That's what everyone else does on these types of custom builds.
