I have a 1996 C4 that has developed an annoying problem. When parked, the horn will honk one short beep (same as the PKE arming beep). The PKE is sitting inside the house, yet the horn beeps randomly all day long. Sometimes it will sit for hours and not beep - other times it will beep several times within a short period of time. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?
I only have one key fob so I don't think that's causing it (the fob is in the house). I did experiment and leave the fob in the car, but that didn't change anything. Plus, it just beeps the short beep like if I had the fob and was walking away from the car (the only difference is that the locks don't lock when this happens).
It doesn't honk while I drive or turn the wheel, just while it's sitting in the garage. Also. maybe it's a coincidence but it seems like it does it more frequently after I've gone into the garage (without the key fob...). I've owned the car for 2+ years and it just started doing this last week.
Thanks for the assistance. I feel sorta stupid, but the problem wasn't with my C4. I also have a C5 and that was the car with the horn beeping. Just assumed it was my C4 since it was the one set up with a PKE....... oh well... on to the C5 forum...
