My rear view mirror has sagged since I bought the car. Yesterday i finally got tired of it and tried something I have been thinking about for a while. I went to Advance auto parts and bought a universal replacement mirror. Then using a high speed cut off wheel I removed the ball and socket arm from the replacement and the corvette mirror. Then I drilled and tapped (I used 6/32) the mirror and the header mount and the replacement arm, and screwed them together using a 6/32 screws that I cut the heads off. I also used some RTV on threads to keep the threads from backing off and to keep the threads from vibrating.
It seems to be working but the big test will be today when I drive the car.
It does extend the mirror out a little but it sure beats the $270 that I understand a new Corvette mirror costs.
I am sorry I didn't take pics but if you look it will be easy to see what needs to be done.
Well it didn't work very well. Mirror stayed where I put it but vibrated alot. I took it back apart , stepped up the holes with 10/32 thread and reassembled it with J-B weld. I will update when the J-b sets up.
Up in the air as to whether I have saved $270. I needed the new mirror anyway so its worth a try.
