Leave the exhaust alone.....add to the $1000 for another mod!
exhaust in the LT1 already have 3'' pipes.

It really dependings on what nitrous settings you select. If you run 100 horsepower setting you will gain roughly 100 horsepower to 110 on average with a decent setup. I would not be surprised at all that when you engage the nitrous your see 130 or 140 torque numbers within the first 1,000 rpm of nitrous engagement. This is why I made the comment in my post about torque and being able to get away with a stock gear much easier. I have sprayed several engines on the dyno and the torque numbers spike within the initial hit.

You had asked should you spray your car from a dead stop or not which is an interesting question. I personally spray all my cars from the launch but they are for the most part able to take the increased power levels. My recommendation would be to start by engaging the nitrous in 2nd gear manually and work your way to first gear because your car may honestly blow the tires off especially if you have harder compound tires. This is why I recommended in my prior post Nitrous and Sticky tires. Hope this helps a little.

Pulling a steaper gear will not be your challenge...getting traction is another story.

I spray mine in 2nd gear. I still have the stock rear and spraying from the line is more likely to destroy it. Not to mention the traction issues. I use the 125 hp jets but the torque is typically much more than the hp rating with nitrous.

I would however like some input on what ya'll are running i.e cam size, heads, exhaust system etc. Exhaust is going to be my first step...My car still has the factory mufflers and cats( i'm sure they are ready for replacement...95 lt1 w/113k) what size pipe/i prefer flowmasters but not sure which type of flowmaster has given the best results)
Chris, I'm NOT recommending anything but here's what I've done so far to my 96. I've installed the LT4 Hot Cam, 195cc Trick Flow Specialties heads, shorty headers, 3" B&B Triflow catback and a ATI P1SC supercharger @ 5-6 lbs of boost [due to belt slippage]. My goal (like yours) was to achieve 400HP at the rear wheels. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to a dyno between mods--so no "notes" on increases by mod.

My base line dyno numbers (stock) were 254 RWHP/288 RWTQ at the rear wheels. After all the mods 397 RWHP / 362 RWTQ. After I work out a few more quirks, I think I'll squeeze @ 3 more HP out of her to reach my goal but... Check out this link to see approx. gains w/ some mods. [http://www.grandsportregistry.com/dyno.htm] This is where I started to get some ideas and see dyno results. Also search this forum, lots of tech tips/tricks and part reviews.

I'm running about 400-425 HP at the crank with an old LT1. Got it into the 12.5's last weekend. Mods included HotCam kit, LT headers, 3.33 gears, and a 2600 stall TC. Haven't touched heads or intake yet. YMMV. Total cost of mods has been about $4500. Benefit has been inestimable!

I was running 150HP shots on my nitrous system... ran me about $800-900 (brand new) with all the extras. A Base kit will run you $600 new.

Complete used kits can run you $250-600 if you look around on larger car club forums, ebay, etc.
Note: There is NOTHING wrong with used kits, buy a Nitrous Express kit and if you are concerned about the solenoids, NX can rebuild them for you for a lot less than a new kit would cost. Our car club's for sale section has various brand kits (usually NX) most of the time for $300-600, many times they include all the extras (pressure gauges and bottle heaters, etc). As long as it's an EFI Wet kit, you can get it for just about any model car if you find it used (Mustangs, etc). All you'd be lacking is a hardware mounting bracket, which you can just bend to fit your needs in most cases, so this doesn't have to be Chevy/Corvette specific.

It's the cheapest HP gain you can buy and just as safe as anything else when installed and used properly.

No. (assuming you are paying someone else to do the wrenching)

I ran a heads/cam set up that was emission legal and reached 350 rwhp without headers. The cam was small, 214/224 @050 duration and 0.566" lift w/ 1.6 rockers in order to keep it emission legal. My budget for this, professinally installed, was around $4000 and it was exceeded; I would budget at least $4500 without the headers/cats/catback. (I added the catback later).
