We had a 3 day monsoon here last week, ever since my passenger light has been acting funny..it will not go up or down on its own at all, but if i raise the hood upto 45 degrees it will flip over. It does this everything as soon as i open the hood it flips.. Ideas? i dont want to get a new motor.
mine does the same thing. I think its the plastic gears in the motor. A rebuild kit should take care of it and they shouldn't cost more than $15 I think. When they are worn, the motor is ok, but not enough grip to turn them over.
Sounds like the delrin (plastic) bushings. Usually about $5 per set of three for each motor. They get crushed to powder after 10years or so. I guess it supposed to be a safeguard for the motor. If the motor malfuctions, the bushings get crushed and then the motor just spins without the wormgear rotating. Check with any corvette shop for a couple sets. It should come with instructions to remove the motor and open it up for replacement of the bushings. About 45mins each motor, if you don't break any screws or don't have any other complications.
84 doesnt have the bushings... it uses 2 plastic gears that run around $40.00 for the set... it's fairly easy to change them out.. took me under an hour 1st time.
