Tuning Setup
I have a 1992, 383 LT-1 with Vortech Supercharger running 12lbs of boost, alcohol injection (2-stage, triggered at 4lb and 8lb of boost) and Siemens 60lb injectors. MSD ignition with boost control (although almost all the 'control' is dialled out). I have a 'good starting point' chip from Greg Carroll. The car runs great, traps at 118MPH from a 2.2 second 60' time (I know I gotta fix my launch).
I am going to be putting headers on the car (can you believe it still has original exhaust manifolds?).
I want to be able to tune the car myself after the header install, plus tweak the current spark map so I can dial out all the boost control in the MSD (I dont trust the MSD setup, mine is too old); I have DataMaster software plus I regularly scan the car at the drag strip.
Where would you start? Do I need a wideband O2? (I will probably install heated O2's with the LT Headers). Does the alky affect the O2 readings? What software do I need? should I look to burn chips or should I run a piggy-back 'realtime' chip setup? My budget for 'tuning' extends to about $500. Oh - and my ECM has a chip socket soldered in so chip swapping is not an issue. Plus I have a couple of spare chips.
I will probably want to tweak the car occasionally - this is not a hard-core tuning attempt.
Thanks for your opinions!
Andy.
