Default PCV Hose Routing Change Why?

I've seen pics of a few LT1 build-ups and noticed that the hose routing for the PCV was changed.

Instead of the hose running to the front of the intake it was turned 180* to return right back into the side of the intake manifold using a piece of "U" shaped hose. Hose comes off the valve then turns are connects to the hose bib that's right next to the valve.

What's the reason for doing it that way? Anyone know?

That's the way my '95 came from the factory. Nothing changed there.

The 96 comes with a factory bent metal tube, maybe 5/16" ID that runs forward between the intake and the valve cover. It had two short pieces of rubber hose to make the actual connections. One at the PCV and the other at the front of the intake.

Pics I've seen seem to be just like your 95s. Wonder why GM changed.

I would think that short U-shaped piece of hose has more of a tendancy to get clogged/stopped up. Thats the way I reasoned the difference when I compared my 96 to my old 95.

You may well be right on that.

The "U" shaped arranged seems more attractive to my eye and I was thinking of doing my new engine the same way, but wanted to try to find out the reason for the change first.

Thanks,

It was changed so the port could be used for the ventiing of the OPTI. The 93 and older, I dont about 94 LT1, had the 90 degree elbow on the drivers side. When they vented the OPti, the took the port from the PCV and rereouted the PCV to the front of the manifold.

Thanks, that sounds reasonable.

Now that I've eliminated the EGR I have an extra port on the driver's side and I'm considering routing my PCV using a 'U' shaped hose.

The venting on my 95 Opti is the same as the 96...
