Interesting observation/question.
I have been on the forum and more importantly reading this section for a LONG time. I don't share as much as I should, mainly due to my web ignorance and hatred of having to host pics somewhere else then link them. With that said I have a 94 C4 M6 with a T6 turbo running a 5" down pipe. I have been driving/autocrossing it for nearly 4 years now and just recently finished building/putting in a new motor. With the old setup 383/ with stock LT1 cam I made 650/650 RWHP @ 16PSI on 93. With the new setup 351 with a custom cam I have made 650/600 RWHP @15 PSI with a very rough tune (I believe 700 RWHP is attainable with a closer tune a 15PSI on 93.
Now the observation/question:
As I lean to other car interests more (DE's, time trails, track days, ect) my interest is peaked at starting a new project build with an eye to fitting into a more low HP/relieable mold, not that I have had alot of reliability problems with the Turbo car. Which leads me to the question, keep the turbo car or sell it.
I wonder this. What is the real resale value of a turbo C4? I see post after post of guys who seem to desire a turbo C4 more than anything, yet when one came on the market (Bruce's) it attracted almost no real interst and in the end sold for what I believe was a rediculious amount. So I am forced to wonder, Why? Is it because it was a rear mount? I read post after post of many who are willing shell out big bucks for a C4 turbo kit (at least that is what is posted) you would think there would be alot more interest in a ready to drive setup.
I promise you this is not supposed to be mean spirited or pointing fingers, just found myself at a cross roads and thought it was an interesting observation.
At any rate, for what Bruce sold the car for, I was much better off to buy his, then to continue on with mine. He already had installed a 6 point roll bar, accell dfi, etc.
I think the main problem with selling these cars for a high price, ie. $20,000-$40,000 is plain and simple. Its putting you in the price range of a c-5 or even close to a c-6. And the bottom line is, even though a lot like the c-4 better then the newer ones, a lot of us have not traded up due to the money. Therefore the market for a high priced c-4 is very limited to who is willing to pay it.
By the way, I would occasionally like to pick your brain about mine when issues come up!!
As far as a turbo C4 goes, I think it's like any other set of mods. You'll almost always get far less than what you put into it. Even though you've done the research and sorted everything out, the next guy will have to trace your footsteps which often isn't as fun as doing the project yourself.
I'd love to hear more about the car - sounds awesome...
