Default Best 52mm Throttle Body ???

Hi everyone. I am going to be replacing the stock TB in my '90 L98. What is the best bang for the buck on a 52mm? I have read that BBK's are not so good, and that holleys are better? What about the guy on Ebay that rebuilt's and bores them out to 52/58 mm? has anyone used this guy?
Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, Randy

Not to insult your intelligence but is there a problem with your stock unit?

I think getting a factory one bored to the 52mm is the best, as you retain the factory quality and idle cicuitry.
And, the L98 , if stock, doesnt really benifit from a 52mm, IMHO.

The engine is not stock, Accel base, SLP runners, Ported plenum.

Yes, and why does that matter? I only asked for opinions on 52mm throttle bodys.

Yes

If that's all that's done to the car it is basically stock. What's the problem with your stock unit?

Because I was trying to save you from pissing 300 bux away to gain basically nothing if your car has a unit that is operating fine. But if you feel the need to blow your dough by all means give er hell.

Ditto Hippy:
Randy, your engine is at no position to need a 52mm TB... your just wasting money, won't do anything for you performance wise... Spend your money where it will do some good, of if your just loaded, go for it...

Then get a proted factory T Body. Its already engineered correctly. Others need a little massageing, adjustments etc etc.
But, I think Holleys, then AS&M, then TPIS, then Edlebrock/BBK.
Remember a 52mm is about 750cfm of AIR, unlike a 750cfm carb which has to pass fuel too. So, it is a big throttle body for a 350.
But, your engine is not really stock, but airflow wise it is, as the heads and cam are stock, and flow very little. A 52mm is overkill right now like others have said.

I have a Holley 58mm on the Vette and a Holley 52mm on the Trans Am. Love the quality and look. Just a shame to cover those beautiful red throttle plates though.

The reason I want a new one is that when I was installing new injectors, I dropped my throttle body onto the cement floor of my garage. and I think I bend the shaft, because now it will not close all the way. Is that a good enough reason?

Forum member RacerX70CC just sold me a pro products 52mm TB for $200, try him.

I can't vouch for it as I haven't installed it yet, but it appears to be good quality. inlet opening might require some massaging like the Holley unit.

i would not get the stock tb bored to 52 mm i would buy a professional products 52mm tb .that's the best bang for the buck under $200 for a t/b.most stock t/b got worn shaft bores so unless you pay to have it bored and rebuilt, its a waste of money just to get it bored to 52mm.

OK, regardless of the reason for the 52mm TB, I would strongly suggest the TPIS unit. Unlike the BBK and some others, the TPIS is high quality and provides a very smooth and linear throttle response.

I bought a stock TB that was bored to 52mm from one of the ebay porters. I've had no problems with it. I wish I would have gone with a 58mm at the time for bigger future plans. I have not seen any stock TB's ported to 58mm. I'm not sure if it can be done.

Sure, if you would have said that in your origional post, rather than just what you did, you may have gotten different responses... Personally i don't care what you spend your money on, the answers were directly related to your post...

Vinnie,
In my first post, I only asked for info on 52mm throttle bodies, not if I should buy one for my setup.

Thank you for the responces.

I've been running an AS&M 52mm TB for about 5 years without a problem. FYI: It's a bored out stock TB.
