You need an extra relay to due the lights or horn. I used the supplied relay(for ign kill) to open the hatch.
I did the same thing

I should have posted this earlier....

I would not recommend piggybacking a keyless onto the factory alarm. It would be far easier to get a packaged keyless+alarm and tie into the stock alarm inputs/outputs.

It can be done, just requires some intimacy with the wiring.

I don't follow?

Shouldn't the keyless entry I purchased work with the factory alarm... I bought the OE A/C Delco Keyless entry.

Yes it can be done. But there's no such thing as plug n play, Delco or not. You'll need to do additional wiring and have an extra relay or two wired in. All the keyless knows is receiving FOB signals and grounding certain wires. The car however needs certain things to happen in a certain order to work right.

Trust me, see my 1st and 4th post.

Oh, Ok, Gotcha... I know that will need to be done, hopefully with all the information I have I will be able to get through the install. If I do run into problems you can count on the fact that I will be posting online, and might just even PM you.

Thanks for the heads up,

Dan

Ok, 5 minutes into the job and I am already confused. Not looking to good right now.

I am stumped on what to do with the door locks. I think I need a relay, but I am not sure how to install it or how many I need. When I add it up in my head, it appears I need one for the left drivers door, one for the right side to lock that on separately 15 seconds later, one for the horn, one for the alarm, and one for the lights .... thats a heck of alot of relays! I know i am missing something here.

Oh, and I have 3 diagrams from various sites all telling me the color of the wires are different. Does anyone have a diagram of how to wire up the door lock and unlock thats simple to follow.

This is a 89 vette

You don't need a relay for everything. You can utilize the stock lock relays, etc.

You absolutely need to get the electrical manual for your year before you proceed. The wiring diagram for door locks and anti-theft will refer to connections (C219, C343, etc.) On the page following each set of diagrams, it will refer to figures elsewhere in the manual that shows you exactly where these connectors are. So you may need some of these pages after you check over the diagram.

Most of your wiring will be to the wires on the anti-theft module, but not all of them, like the hatch.

From the diagram, you need to determine what signal (12V or ground) each system needs. Disarm signal for example, needs a ground signal. Door lock relays on some years need a 12V signal, etc.

Then you need to look in your VKE manual and see what each channel puts out, ground or 12V. If you don't know the fundamentals on how a relay works, and what each of the 4 or 5 leads do, then learn.

I think you're just starting to realize the fun of tapping into the factory alarm. It's honestly not easy.

Or if you can wait until after Aug 2, send me all the diagrams and enough for a case of beer and I'll tell you exactly what needs to be done and where the wires tap into. I used my VKE to add a channel for turning the stereo on and off, and to leave the stereo running until the doors are locked, similar to the new cars that leave it on until the door is opened.

I can't really help you before then, I'm going non-stop with some house remodel work rignt now before new tenants move in on the 1st.

Ok, I will word this as best I can, but I can't seem to find the right words. So even though the doors are reverse polarity the VKE is already calibrated for that so I can use the stock wires that they suggest in the installation guide and just hook it up, correct?

Where do I get a factory service manual? Is that something I can buy from the dealer or it needs to be ordered. I have the car laid up in the garage and I need to get it out of there asap.

Oh, this has been great fun

I appreciate the offer but somehow i am going to have to figure this out before monday. I got to get it done. I go a couple more wires sorted last night. I will do the door locks next and then I will come back for more help with the factory alarm part. I'm starting to see how much easier this would be with the factory manual.

Service manuals can be found on ebay or purchased directly at www.helms.com.

Good luck on the install....I was planning on doing the same mod. Good info in this thread so far.

You don't have time to wait on a manual to ship. Start a thread and see who has a 89 or close scanned in.

There's a guy on here that has allllll the manuals for all years on PDF, I'm trying to locate him.

Hey,

I started a new thread with pictures from the installation instructions. I just took a hack at the door lock wiring but i am having a little trouble with the instructions. I did however find the lock/unlock wires coming out of my drivers side kick panel....

Thanks,

Dan
