i have a L98 1988 auto with 24 lbs injectors, air foil, cut plugs, cut air box, walker exaust,th. body bypass and k&n with 2.59 gear and full rebuilt trans. i ran 80 mph in the 1/8 mile. my ? is would my motor hold 100 shot nos [wet system]? if i could get some help on jetting and basic set up i would be greatful. thanks. :boxing
I say go for it. Its cheap horsepower and if you can limit yourself to only 100-150 shot your L98 should be fine. Some things to keep in mind are an MSD box with a timing retard set-up. I have a digital 6 in my race car and I am extremely happy with it. Maybe consider a stronger fuel pump. Refills on bottles are usually around 40 bucks. I get mine for 3.49 a pound. If you do this you are going to cut the longetivity out of your engine (depending on how much you get "addicted" to it) I was always told its not IF it blows its WHEN it blows. But I said forget it...its going to blow up someday anyway. If I could figure out a way to do a direct port setup on my super ram i would add a 100 shot to my L98 :yesnod:
Be sure to get a fuel pressure safety switch so the NOS will cut off if the fuel pressure is too low. Don't try to go too lean when tuning it - better, use the NOS mfr recommend jets and check the plugs after a few runs and then on a regular basis. Put on a boost retard ignition system. Detonation is bad on a regualr engine and potentially fatal on a juice motor. Follow the plug recommendations by the NOS mfr.
Make sure your injectors are working properly. If one is clogged, that cylinder will go lean and could be damaged. Be sure your plug wires and the rest of the ignition system is in good shape. Pay close attention to keeping the #5 and #7 plug wires separated. Those two cylinders are known to cross fire. Actually make sure all the wires are separated.

I would say go for it. I have been running a 150shot on my vette for the last two years and have had no problems at all. I would definitely buy the NXpress kit. Its by far the best. Just take all of the precautions the guys are talking about.
I just cant see ever using nos in a vette. To me port heads do all the real mods and have a reliable engine instad of greatly reducing the engines life.
The corvette is way to nice a car to be hooking up bottles imho. I guess the horsepower and price make it attractive to racers but i would feel funny having to push a button or switch to increase horsepower.
I would feel alot more comfortable getting my horsepower from respected tuners of corvettes.
Plus i wouldnt feel like a ricer with a civic and some bottles hooked up. I have way to much pride for my vette to ever hook up that poopie.
Yikes! I didn't realize five years ago when I put on my NOS system that I was greatly reducing my engine's life! I also have horrible guilt feelings and can't sleep at night after dealing with some yahoo in a ricer or stang that thinks they'll have a little fun with the old man in the Vette. Put it on, have fun, and if it breaks, fix it.
