I HAVE A STRANGE PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS. WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKES, ONLY THE CENTER LIGHT COMES ON. I CHECKED ALL FUSES AND CHANGE ALL LIGHT BULBS. THE TAIL LIGHT DOES COME ON FOR HARARD, PARKING, AND BLINKERS. JUST NOT FOR STOP. DON'T WANT TO GET A TICKET FOR BURNT TAIL LIGHT. HELP!!!
Check your owners manual and make SURE you have the right bulbs. Also check to make sure they are in the socket correctly. 2 filiment bulbs will sometimes go in both ways, but only one is correct.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK BEFORE I CHANGE THE BULBS. I JUST THOUGHT THAT IT WOULDN'T HURT TO DO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE FIRST THING EVERYONE TELL ME TO DO IS CHANGE THE BULBS. I DID GET THE CORRECT BULBS AND MADE SURE ALL OF THEM WERE PUT IN CORRECTLLY. STILL PUZZLED AND FURSTRATED. I EVEN BOUGHT A REPAIR MANUAL FOR IT. I EVEN GOT ALL THE PEOPLE AT WORK HELP ME. WE WORK IN CIRCUIT CITY ROADSHOP.
If the stop hazard fuse is ok and 12 volts is on both sides of the fuse holder, then you need to check the brake switch which has two contacts, one operates the high stop lights and the other contact operates the stop/turn lights and goes through the turn/hazard sw assembly. The green wire on the brake switch operates the upper and the white wire goes to the turn/haz column sw (on my 87). Both wires on the brakes switch must have 12 v on them when the brake is activated. Could be the brake sw or the turn/haz sw. Also check the ground wires on the stop/turn lamps for continuity to the negative term on the battery. Good luck.
