Hi,
I had the valve cover gaskets replaced (tried to myself but only created a huge vacume leak), and an oil change. Ever since, it has a deep engine knock for about 1/2 second after the engine starts in the morning. It starts quietly when it's warm.
I put 1/3 can of Seafoam in the crankcase and that helped a little.
Any ideas? It would be nice not to blow up the motor.
I don't know the specs for your 1985. But since it only happens when cold there are a couple of things to consider. The oil is in the pan when the car is cold. So it would be normal for the engine to be louder at startup from cold than hot. But what you describe is that this is a new sound. Find out at what pressure the fuel system is supposed to be while running. (guessing 35 psi) And find out what the pressure is supposed to be when the car is switched off. (guessing 30 psi) Then find out how long it is supposed to hold that pressure before it leaks down. (guessing several hours) I'm thinking that an injector is leaking the fuel into the intake and when you start it you have a bit of extra gas.
