Default +1 on the Magnaflow System

Finally had a new magnaflow exhaust system put into my 89. I just wanted to let everyone know it worked out very well, looks cool, sounds awsome, better gas mileage, and yes, more power (that may be more in my head than anything else.) Heres what the system consists of:

Heddman Jet Coated Headers --> Magnaflow Mini Spun Cats --> Two 2.5" pipes leading to an 2.5" X-pipe in the rear leading to Magnaflow Wide Open Mufflers with LT1 Tips.

Total Cost was more expensive then I estimated... as usual. $350 for the headers, $350 for the Mufflers, Tips, Cats, and X-Pipe, $350 for the Mandrel Bent 2.5" Piping, hangers, and install.

This is a true dual system. The sound is awesome,... Magnaflow Spells Covette! Its EXTREMELY QUIET on the highway, and idle. Sounds very agressive and gets loud when you get on it. The car screams,..

OH, and ever since I did the install all the white smoke on startup is gone,... which I am thinking was some sort of cat problem.

Overall I am very happy and would recommend this system OVER, Flowmaster, Spintech, and Dynamax, for this vehicle.

Hey Dan,

As soon as I finish up the C3 I was planning on taking a cruise on by.... Did I mention we blew up the tranny. I got the new one from CPT but have been busy with the C4 and haven't had time to finish it up.

Ill be at Bear Mountain tomorrow night with the C4...

Hows the Stroker Coming along?

Congrats! I'm saving up for magnaflow as well. Let me know if you're ever in the city or long island for car shows

i thought white smoke on startup was normally caused by bad valve seals??

White smoke on startup could be bad valve seals, blown head gasket, or a number of other things. Normally a cat will cover some of that up, but with the new bullet cats you would see it more so. The substrate in the old ones was all messed up and I should say rather, it blows a little oily smoke on startup like they all do, but not what it was doing before.

I checked for a head gasket leak already... see post from weeks ago.

You can save $$ on doing the polished cat back believe it or not. But for the difference (if you can afford it) of a couple hundred dollars its well worth doing the exhaust from start to finish, the results are impressive.

In any event I promise you will not go wrong with this system.

Just my $0.02

Yeah - I think you told me about the C3 tranny. I can't wait to see that car when you get it done.

I want to hear the exhaust on the '89 - I'm thinking of going that route this winter. I'm just working on the tune these days - hopefully it won't rain this weekend and I'll be able to get out for some data logging.

I'll try to swing Bear Mountain next week -

You do have more power. Because of the x-pipe!

Magnaflow makes great products. I would never use anything else!

Do you have an part numbers for these items?

I have a full Magnaflow system on my '89, but it consists of their front Y-pipe with pre-cats, single main cat, rear Y-pipe, to two flow-through twin-tipped mufflers, all of which are stainless steel construction (the mufflers and main cat are high polished). Oh, and my car is running stock exhaust manifolds.

I've been thinking about putting headers on my car (Heddman Elites) and going to a full dual-exhaust setup which is why I ask if you have part numbers.

Thanks very much in advance

Oh, and you're right - the Magnaflows sound AMAZING!!!

Let me take a look around and see if I kept the receipt. I actually got everything off ebay, which for the first time was a good decision. Greyhound Auto Parts on Ebay sells brand new magnaflow stuff CHEAP! And the owner and his wife were EXTREMELY helpful in helping me choose the right components. I told him what I was looking to do; unlike a few of the other compaines reps who told me magnaflow created a cat back for a reason, this guy helped me choose the right components no questions asked!

The Headers make a big difference, worth the money as far as I am concerned. I purchased the Hedman Cermanic "Street" headers. With a set of copper gaskets they sealed tight. I swear the dual 2.5 pipes make the sound more powerful. This could all me in my mind though.

They do sound very nice. Today I took my buddy out for a ride in the car. He has an LS1 GTO and we LOVE to disagree on everything. Prior to the installation of the exhaust system he informed me that Magnaflow sounds like garbage. Its been a long time since I was able to shut him up but this exhaust did. All he said was, "sounds pretty good." Thats enough to let me know that he is surfing the web looking for a good price for a system for his car.

Dan, Ill come around sometime this weekend if weather and girlfriend permit.
