Have had vette for a while now; it has never started on the first crank since I bought it. Is there something I should look out for? I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel relay, rotor and cap as a maintence items. The vette has new injectors and the fuel pump is putting out the proper pressure at the fuel rails. I also replaced IAC for better idle and have cleaned the throttle body. Just recently I got a 34 code and check engine light on it but have since fixed that with new maf relays. I have not replaced the wires or plugs since I bought it last year. According to the paperwork I received when I bought the car the plugs and wires had been replaced recently. So is this a electrical problem and what else can I look for?
2nd crank, 3rd crank, how much cranking time? 1-2 seconds or longer?
What is different about the second or third crank?
You now have some unburned fuel in the exhaust that wasn't there before. Also some remaining unburned fuel in the cylinders most likely. Eventually the fuel accumulates into a rich enough mixture for combustion. You may have some oil pressure that wasn't there before.
A few ideas:
Could be that the fuel supplied during crank isn't sufficient or that the fuel flow is restricted. Check the fuel pressure. Is it holding after ign on and prior to crank or bleeding down. Do you hear the fuel pump running briefly at ign on? Bad Fuel pump relay?
Maybe too much air due to vacuum leaks or perhaps the exhaust valves are over adjusted and not fully closing allowing extra air to be pulled in through the exaust valve on the intake stroke.
