It depends on the pickup tube diameter. The 10554 is for a 3/4" tube and the 10553 is for the 5/8" tube. My 94 has a 5/8" pickup tube for example. The Melling Select series is the stronger casting and they include a nice all steel drive with them and usually a second lesser pressure spring.
I read in a couple of the LT1/4 rebuild books that the LT1 came with a 3/4" pickup. I measured my pickup and the outside diameter is a RCH under .8 so I'm know its a 3/4.
What I want to know is if its a straight bolt in (IE can I use my stock pickup and oil pan).
Melling has made what used to be an easy choice aPITA, Summit and the other list the LT1 pump but its one of the new castings and the 10554 does not have LT1 listed.
You could try calling the Melling Tech dept or find a speed shop and ask/see if the 10554 is longer than a M55. If the length is the same the pump won't hit the bottom of the pan.

Has any body used the 10554 in their LT1 build?
Not me, I used the M155HV.
I did use one on my 415 L98 and had to clearance the HEL* out of both the pan and the pump for it to clear. Lots of banging and grinding going on.
OOPs, I used the 10555, the HV version. Sorry for that mistake.

Jake thanks for posting! and you're correct the 10555 is the HV. Everything I've ever read and been told about SBC's has led me to believe that I don't need a HV or HP pump on my build since how did buying a standard volume high quality oil pump become such Azzpain?

Yep, I know what you mean.
Basically, I read everything I come across, do my GOOGLE search, check other Forums, then decide for myself what I want to do/buy.
