I have a 1991 L-98 6 speed. Unfortunately she has caught a cold that I have yet to be able to remedy. If the car as been sitting and is completely cooled down and you fire it up it will idle alright but as soon as you goose the juice it feels like when you hit a rev limiter, the car just stops trying to accelerate and no it is no where near the rev limiter when this happens. It is as if the car does not know how to properly warm up. I checked the TPS sensor (ok) and replaced the MAP sensor neither helped. The check engine light comes on and off and if I am lucky goes off once the car has warmed up and only rarely actually runs like it used once it is warmed up. I have tried the trick where you use a jumper wire on the aldl to retrieve the codes but I never get anything. It just flashes the all ok code. The car has a brand new pcm / ecm which ever it is that houses the chip. The chip is the original however. I have put the innovate wideband kit on the car and have not reset the o2 sensor, yet I do not think that could cause this type of problem.
The CTS would be a good place to start. If you could pull the codes, that would help more. The CTS is located in the front of the intake manifold. I has two wires going to the connector. On my 86, they are yellow with black stripe and black (IIRC). You can ohm the sensor hot and cold, but really won't know what the problem is with out the code.
is it the engine coolant temp sending unit that is on the passenger side of the block?
and what should the ohm ranges be for the CTS ?
Yep, the engine coolant temp sender for the analog dash gauge is located below #6 and #8 spark plugs.
Note: the coolant temp sender and CTS are two different components.
The CTS sends resistance signals to the ECM for fuel delivery, idle speed, ect. It is also where the digital coolant temp readout on the dash comes from.
Thank AGENT 86 for this link. Even though you are not getting this code, that we know of, it will show the resistance numbers at certain engine temps. If the SES light has come on, it should be stored in the (H) history.

The misinformation is flying fast and furious, today. The CTS for the ECM is in the front of the intake manifold, facing forward. There is NO fan switch in a 1991 C4. The fans are both computer controlled. The IP temperature gauge sending unit is in one of the heads. I don't know if it is the left or the right for a 1991 car. From 1986 through 1989 it was in the right head. Because there is no fan switch, the hole in the other head is plugged.
Thanks a million for all the quick replies and the sensor info ,come to find out I was watching the engine run ,brainstorming, and happen to notice the number one spark plug wire was hopping about as the car was running instantly new that was not right, tightened the plug, problem solved. I guess that is why they are called V8's and not V7/8's.
