Here is a pretty simple question. I have heard that the viper runs a dana 44 rear same as us 6spd. guys. The thing is, I don't hear about them breaking all of the time like we do (granted I don't spend any time in the viper community). What is the difference? Hennessey makes over 1100ft/lbs and supposedly doesn't modify the rear end?!?!? I'm sure the mounts are different but if they do indeed have stronger internals or a stronger case, can it be modified to work in a C4?? Just curious......
Common problem also with big Hp C4's is breaking the nose of the diff head where the C beam mounts.
Enough torque causes the whole batwing to rotate ( is only mounted by the 2 big bushes and the beam until the nose breaks.
Maybe the Viper has the diff head mounted more solid and a conventional driveshaft
Keep this in mind, its not the torque the motor makes that breaks the diff., its the torque you are putting to the ground. In other words, if your tires are spinning, that releases the torque on the diff, and wont break parts like a dead hook.
Ill bet that hennensy or any of those ultra high hp vipers are not running slicks and keeping the D-44 alive.
In a C4 the batwing hangs off 2 rubber bushes and the only other mounting point is the engine mounts.
Lots of distance for the driveline to wind up under extreme conditions.
Most IRS systems have a trans X member and don't rely on a bolted beam between the trans and diff for front support
