hello guys,
i recently just brought a set of comp cam pro magnum 1.6 ratio roller rockers to go on my L98 engine when i get my new larger ported heads next year and to go with my mini ram intake !
any way i recently read that some engine builders run 1.6 ratio on intake side and 1.5 ratio on exhaust side. or may be that was the other way around ,cant remember.
so is this a good idea please?
is it neccesary and what gains can be achieved please ?
more rpms or less may be ? or may be more or less torque ?
is worth it ?
thank you
tyson

There's really no need to stagger the ratios unless you can't get the cam that you want. Many cams have split lift and duration anyway that keep the exhaust valve open longer than the intake.
The only benefit I see is that you can change them out quickly with the same effect of switching to a cam with a slightly different grind. Might be useful if doing dyno tuning, etc...
You got it right; some run 1.6 on the Intake only. This is usually on serious race-type motors though. With a really big cam, there's usually enough lift on the Exhaust that the 1.6 really doesn't add anything extra, according to some. But Intake ports (SBChev) do seem to like a lot of lift. You can also compensate for weak intake or exhaust ports with the cam grind. On a street/strip motor just go with 1.6 RR on both.

Could you show me some sources on this? Not trying to say you're but I've just never heard of anything like this.
Just bought my 85 a couple of months ago thanks for the knowledge. I'll remember that.
There's something called a "Louis" tool that's used to elongate the holes in the heads. Unfortunately you have to pull the heads to have the holes elongated.
