Default Interior dye

I want to change my entire interior to black. What kind of dye do I need to get to transform the door panels from graphite (gray) to black? What is the procedure to dye them? I'd really like to get this job done this weekend as well as re-finishing alot of my plastic pieces.

2 week job! the plastic pieces alone done right are a weekend project! and as far as dye goes, i strongly recommend getting new components, you will be much much happier with the result, i died my 85 from a blue to a black interior, it looked alright for the first month then the blue started bleeding through in spot and it was a night mare of a job! can't remember what dye i used , but i know i will never ever attempt it again, the savings is simply not owrth it. i would get new components and sell the old ones after the install, it will result in a brand new interior and make someone else looking for the graphite color a happy vette owner. i know alot of people who have the red in their white cars who would change to the graphite in a heartbeat and also some black with camel that wouldn't mind making the swap. best of luck!

I don't believe black was ever an option for early C4's
Also, new door panels would be roughly 8 times the cost of these new-to-me panels that I bought... :U
As for the plastic pieces, I just can't justify paying the prices I've seen in the magazines for pieces of plastic. I'd rather take twice however long it takes and save a bit of $$$ that unquestionably will be spent on some other area of the car. If I won the lottery, I'd buy new pieces. Infact they'd be brand new pieces. They'd ALL be brand new pieces cause that's all they put on a brand new car!

Anyone else have any advice on dying?

Im doing this now..for the vinyl i used 3 coats of a spray on blackvinyl paint, then some protectant..ive had someparts done for a few months now..still looks good, i did my doors last week. For plastic i use a exterior satin black trim paint, 3 coats or paint and 3 coats of clear then i polish with polsihing compund and wax it, turns out excellent..im actually polishing my digi-dash cover plate now. Now so i dont get flamed again, make sure the pieces are clean and use a good degreaser-silicon remover.

SEM makes a spray trim paint that's the same thing Ecklers and others sell in a quart can as interior dye. It's a lot easier to use. Only thing I don't like is it ends up a little rough feeling when sprayed on plastic. Spraying it on the vinyl of the console top and top dash pad came out fine.

I tried spraying the canned dye on with an airbrush. Too fine a spray. I didn't want to spend any more on a paint gun, but I found the SEM spray cans worked fine (if you stop using a can when it's helf empty). Read my tips at:
