another question...my car acts up only when it gets pretty hot-warm weather, stop and go traffic, driving for 20 min or more-then it cuts out under acceleration. now, IF this is related to the coil and icm (i bought a new coil already) is it possible that the heat grease is just worn out/off (it seemed pretty thin in a couple places) and if i re-grease it that the old icm might still work, and a new one might be unnecessary? or should i just buy a new one?
Car misfiring or dying when hot can be caused by a poor thermal connection between the ICM and whatever it's bolted to (depends on the year). You need to have THERMAL grease under the ICM, not dielectric grease.
The purpose of the grease is to eliminate the air pockets under the ICM because the surfaces aren't perfectly flat. Air is an insulator.
